Make Beaver Trail Campground your home base as you explore the local area. Enjoy the nearby ORV and snowmobiling trails, inland lakes for fishing and boating, state land for hunting and great fall color tours. You may ride to the trails from our ATV/snowmobile friendly campground. Bring your kids to the Omegaw Nature Park, just over 2 miles away. Clear Lake, with a public boat launch, is one mile from the campground. Take a hike or bike ride at the Rifle River Recreation Area or Ogemaw Hills. There are numerous golf courses, antique shops, the West Branch Outlets, and be sure to visit our charming downtown.
As the cultural focal point of West Branch, the Victorian downtown area is a vibrant, bustling place to shop, dine, and relax. As you amble down the tree-lined streets, you'll notice the Victorian architecture reflecting the town's heritage. This friendly downtown community offers many unique shops including gift shops, jewelers, antique malls, and countless restaurants ranging from pizzerias, quaint cafes, and coffeehouses. Spend a relaxing afternoon with an ice cream cone on an old-time park bench or have a picnic in picturesque Irons Park.
West Branch has quickly become a mecca for golf enthusiasts. There are sevaeral fine golf courses available to visitors. The Dream Golf Course offers an 18-hole course as well with bent fairways and traps to challenge even the best golfer. Sister course to The Dream is The Nightmare. A beautiful course with greens that roll quick and true. Green Briar Golf Course offers a quality course complete with sand traps, watered fairways, and driving range. West Branch Country Club is open to the public and offers a course that's challenging yet player friendly.
Located a short 16 miles east of West Branch, the Rifle River Recreation Area is a 4,000 acre wilderness within the AuSable State Forest featuring 14 miles of pathways and plentiful activities for visitors. Hike through the park and visit the observation tower that boasts an incredible view of the park. There is a swimming beach, picnic shelters, canoeing, and fishing. The park is a designated watchable wildlife site, so bring your binoculars. The park also allows metal detecting in designated areas. Rifle River Recreation Area is open year-round for day use.
A short 16 miles from Beaver Trail Campground, Roscommon Zoo is a farm and zoo nestled on 20 acres and offers domestic and exotic animals for viewing and petting. Most of the animals can be hand-fed healthy treats. Home to over 70 friendly animals, the zoo features a dromedary camel named Humphrey, ring tailed lemurs, a miniature horse named Chip, and wallabies to name a few. Visitors will enjoy feeding, petting, and learning about each animal. The zoo also features a picnic area, play area, and gift shop.
